Pairings

A few easy rules that help you land a pairing that actually works.

The quick pairing framework

  1. Match intensity first. Big peat + big cigar. Light dram + mild wrapper.
  2. Chase contrast, not chaos. Sweet bourbon can balance peppery cigars.
  3. Watch the smoke. Smoky scotch + smoky cigar can be great… or just ash. Start moderate.
  4. Keep a reset. Water or coffee between puffs/sips if flavors start stacking.

Starter pairings

  • Islay peat → Maduro or broadleaf, darker chocolate notes.
  • Sherry cask scotch → Medium-bodied stick with cedar + dried fruit.
  • Sweet bourbon → Connecticut wrapper, creamy + nutty profile.
  • Spicy rye → Habano wrapper, pepper + baking spice synergy.
